STORY

The story behind Deborah Silver

When a legend and icon like Quincy Jones raves about an artist by saying “her strong and sultry vocals are seductive and soul-soothing. Her talent and beauty are equally extraordinary. Whatever she sings she owns, making every note matter! One listen and you know…she is the real deal,” you can be sure music fans everywhere will take notice and wonder just who that artist is.  In this case that would be Mississippi-born, two-time #1 Billboard chart-topping vocalist Deborah Silver.

Deborah Silver has had a string of hit duets with celebrated artists including Bill Medley of the Righteous Brothers, Jack Jones, Freddy Cole, Ann Hampton Callaway, and Ray Benson of Asleep At The Wheel. Her upcoming releases include duets with superstars Tony Orlando, Ronnie Millsap, Pam Tillis, Steve Tyrell and Jazz icon Diane Schuur. She is currently at work recording a full album with The Count Basie Orchestra.

“Deborah Silver has it all: fantastic showmanship, a great swinging band, and, most of all, solid jazz chops.”

Will Friedwald

Wallstreet Journal

Deborah’s album, Glitter & Grits produced by industry legend Ray Benson, features musicians from his multi-Grammy award winning band Asleep at the Wheel, currently celebrating their 52nd anniversary. Glitter & Grits reinforces Silver’s immense versatility, as an artist taking us on a journey from jazz to the unique Western swing style bringing these songs to life in a dynamic and uplifting way. This album was voted Broadway World’s Best Commercial Recording, landed the #1 spot on both Traditional Jazz and Western Swing Charts, and crossed over to become #3 on the Weekly Top 50 Country Album Chart. Veteran Critic Rex Reed published a reaction to the album: “Tired of rock and allergic to country and western, I find the shock of what Deborah Silver has done to distill the essence of both musical genres into a fresh cocktail of combustible joy  both a surprise and a thrill.  The result is a unique and flavorful entertainment guaranteed to  put a happy smile on every face at a time when the world needs one most. What a treat–hard to explain, but easy to love.”

Deborah chose to forego her career to dedicate herself to raising her children. She came back with a bang – The Gold Standards, produced by Steve Tyrell with stunning arrangements by Alan Broadbent, was an out-of-the-box smash reaching #1 on the Billboard Traditional Jazz Album chart while also landing at #1 on the Billboard’s Heatseeker Album chart and the #2 spot on the overall Billboard Jazz Album chart. Her latest EP Sunny Side, is an Amazon Best Seller in Jazz.

Deborah Silver is relatable on all levels and is particularly an inspiration to women everywhere seeking to restart their careers after taking time to raise families. Her epic return to the music industry proves that anything can be overcome. Thus, her mantra #NeverTooLate. Deborah draws her own inspiration from many sources and from a background that is filled with both triumphs and struggles.

After the birth of her second child, Deborah was diagnosed with a rare bone disease. This led to a period in which Deborah was confined to a wheelchair,  trying to maintain her own health while caring for her infant and toddler.  Deborah recovered, and once her children began calling her from their bedrooms on their cell phones, she knew it was time to return to her music! One would certainly never know that she was ever stricken with this debilitating diagnosis, the way she gracefully moves on stage with a contagious energy.

Deborah’s sold out stage performances in clubs, concert venues, and with symphony orchestras are reminiscent of the golden and glamorous era of Las Vegas. Deborah has dazzled at countless clubs and performing arts centers around the country, including Jazz at Lincoln Center, Birdland, Blues Alley, 54 Below, Catalina Jazz Club, The Colony’s Royal Room and Kravis Center for the Performing Arts.

The reviews of Deborah’s recording work and stage shows to no one’s surprise are consistent raves and accolades. “When Deborah Silver takes over a mic, she doesn’t just visit the stage, she owns it!  Trust me. With beauty, style, talent, swinging musical savvy and a bundle of bazazz, Deborah Silver’s got it all in one package. She’s a thrill, a swinging show-biz whirlwind…and a bargain at any price!”  according to Rex Reed of The New York Observer.

Deborah looks not only to inspire with her back story but more so with her everyday actions. Typical of her philanthropic nature, Deborah recorded her album, Pure Silver, a stellar collection of standards and pop favorites, to raise funds for a cure for ALS and continues to honor that charitable commitment by donating 100 percent of all proceeds from sales to help those suffering with the disease.

She also donated all first week sales of The Gold Standards, to various charities including but not limited to United Way, Semper Fi Fund (supporting injured members of all branches of the U.S. Armed Forces) Nascar Victory Junction Gang Camp (for children with serious medical conditions) and ALS research, in honor of her sister who was diagnosed with the vicious disease. Deborah and her daughter began a charitable worldwide movement titled SLAM ALS to continue this support for a cure. Most recently, while recovering from the Covid-19 virus, Deborah teamed up with 12 x Grammy nominee, Dennis Lambert to write the song “Covid-19 Blues” to raise funds for both Actors Fund and Jazz Foundation of America, in order to help others suffering due to the pandemic.

Deborah Silver has an exciting list of projects she is working on and can’t wait to share them with the world! You can hear her music streaming on all sites!
